ITV were filming the event at our premiere last night and have just published the report they made online.

The Premiere!

We finally did it.

Last night, Get Connected took over the Odeon in Covent Garden for the premiere of four short films that the winners of our Nobody's Perfect competition created.

The winners - Adam Wedd, Stephanie Lennox, Zemmy Momoh, Toby Cohen, Dulani Wilson, Timothy Unzola and Thomas Grigg - were all there, as were members of our celebrity judging panel Sandi Thom, JJ Feild and Georgia Groome.

As an added bonus, Anne Hathaway, Lily Allen and Jonathan Demme were also in attendance to watch a BAFTA screening of Anne and Jonathan's new film, Rachel Getting Married. Anne and Jonathan were late into their own screening because they took so much time to speak to the competition winners.

The films - entitled Overrated, Jump, Waiting Room and Numb - were all rapturously received by everyone in attendance. JJ, who had helped mentor the winners, said a few words to the packed out audience and was joined by Georgia to present the winners with certificates and DVDs of their films.

I'd like to once again extend massive thanks to everyone who helped us with this hugely ambitious project but especially to media agency Silence for helping us realise the competition, to Fair Knowledge for helping the winners to make their films, to our celebrity judging panel, to everybody who entered the competition, and to our winners for creating four intelligent, powerful, articulate and quite brilliant films.

The films will be online soon, so please keep an eye out for them.

It's been hard work but we think it's been worth it. We'd really like to do it all again, if you want Nobody's Perfect to come to your city, head over to getconnected.org.uk and vote in our poll.

Let the judging commence

So, after just over a month, the competition closed on Friday.

Thanks to everyone who entered. I've said this a lot but I've been genuinely taken aback at how good all of the entries were.

Our judging panel are now taking time out from their busy schedules to put decide upon the competition winners.

Hopefully we'll be able to announce in a day or two!

The Scripts!

And so, with only a couple of days left, I'm finally able to turn my attention to the scripts. The quality is absolutely phenomenal.

Charlene Bastians' The Price Of Ten Pounds is our most recent submission; it's an absolutely brilliant journey of a ten pound note that finds itself changing hands with a cast of inter-related characters. There's a great twist at the end. I really loved it. Charlene also uploaded a script about issues associated with self-harm called Mirror Image, which was just as good.

Dulani Wilson has submitted a script entitled Ally's Way. It's really stark and quite violent but I found it totally engrossing. Just as engrossing was Thomas Rees' Capitol. Really brilliant stuff.

Oliver Wurr's Deal Or No Deal - a really brief scene centring on the relationship issues between its two characters Navid and Alice - is ace as well.

Joe Carver's Forlorn Hopes is extremely sophisticated, I recommend reading it for yourself to see how good it is. Toby Cohen's Jump, about two competitive brothers and their father, is just as terrific.

At this point I'm running out of superlatives to use. I enjoyed these scripts so much.

Timothy Unzola's The Pill is an outstanding story about youth gang crime and how a young man is offered early release if he takes a behaviour altering drug. Reminded me a bit of A Clockwork Orange, which is certainly no bad thing.

Absent by Harry Griffiths tells the story of Alan and pretty much perfectly sums up what this campaign is about. Well done, Harry.

Three Perfect Candidates by Thomas Grigg is a really neat story about sexual inequality at work. See You Next Tuesday by Zahra Barri is about… well, think about what See You Next Tuesday might be a euphemism for….

Zahra also uploaded Delia: The Deluded a really witty story about a girl who applies for reality TV shows. Leaving Normal is about a girl called Holly's struggle with depression. It really moved me. Louise Cooke.

Chris Barnes' Skint cracked me up although I have no idea what it's actually about.

I think that's all of them. Really, I'm completely blown away by the quality.

The Videos

Sorry for not posting for a while, it's taken me ages to watch all the fantastic videos that we’ve had submitted.

There are way too many for me to talk about them all in the detail they each deserve, but I'm so impressed by the work that everyone has submitted.

I'm not sure why, but I was surprised so many animations submitted. We've had a brilliant piece of claymation from Sian Ditchfield and an incredible animation from Lola Peugnet, who also uploaded a beautiful black and white piece called Seaside. I had great fun laughing along to Chris Barnes' hilarious Skint and we’ve had a piece of absolutely stunning animation from Dan Mason called The Human Incubator.

The other submissions we've had have all been live action and cover a vast range of different topics and emotions. Craig Viveiros' account of drug addiction is harrowing and brutal, while Fergus Cruickshank's film, Dating The Invisible Man and Ali Hassan's Disappearing Girl were both light-hearted and amusing. Rory McMillan used Sigur Ros' Hljomalind to soundtrack his amazing time-lapsed tour around the Western Isles of Scotland.

Sahil Jhamb's (who also submitted a piece called Gellefry) The Coffee Man, Thou Shalt Not... by Kap Monet and Scene From Stacia by Andrew Rutter were all terrifying for very different reasons. Speaking of scares, Ollie Bostock uploaded the trailer from the 1974 grindhouse movie Killer Flies From Mexico, so I'm afraid we can't accept that one.

There's only one week to go before we stop accepting submissions for the London stage of our project, so if you have a script, film or song to upload, you better do it soon!

Two weeks to go!

I thought I'd hit you all with an update before you all disappear for long weekends away.

There's only two weeks left remaining to get your submissions in, so dust off those laptops, PCs, pens, videocameras, mobile phones, guitars and microphones and submit your ideas!

If you're selected by our panel as one of the winners and you're from London, you'll be invited to work alongside some professional writers, directors and actors and turn your ideas into short films that will be premiered at the Odeon in Covent Garden on 21st October.

If you're not from London, you can still win. The best entries from outside the capital will win a brand new Samsung U600 mobile phone.

Look forward to seeing those entries.

The Music

It being a Friday, I thought I’d have a relaxing day and spend a bit of time giving some attention to the music submissions we’ve had so far.

What can I say? The standard is terrific.

Our most recent submission was from Ananda Shaburova, which seems a good place to start. The words aren’t in English (or at least I can’t decipher them) but Step Of Love is a wonderful example of synth-pop. I really like the cymbal crashes before the vocals start.

Emily Teague has submitted two songs and I love them both. Make Things Right is just beautiful - spare acoustic guitar that leaves the focus on Emily’s stunning voice. The equally gorgeous Yours Faithfully sounds a little more polished, but I think I prefer the slightly grittier recording of Make Things Right.

We’ve also had a couple of serial entrants, which is cool to see. Adam Wedd has submitted six different tracks. The bass-heavy Troubled Times with its thumping drums stands out, as does the beautiful, melancholic Nursery Rhymes. My favourite, I think, is Call On A Friend – all hypnotic guitar plucking and hushed vocals.

Anthony Voelcker is the other serial entrant. Temptation Strings is my favourite of his submissions. Anthony’s voice reminds me of Elliott Smith, which is certainly no bad thing.

Luke by James B (not me, I hasten to add) sounds like Orbital; it’s an excellent piece of electronica.

As for the other entries, igotlife has uploaded Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue (incidentally one of my karaoke favourites) but I think we’re going to have to disqualify that one, and Spikey T’s Gunshot Dub has also been uploaded, but since I own a copy of that on 12”, I think we might have to disqualify it too.

If you’ve already made a submission, don’t forget to get your friends to vote for you. And, if you haven’t uploaded anything yet, you’ve got until 5th September.

I’ll be having a look at the videos and scripts next week.

The competition's been running for a couple of weeks now and I've been absolutely blown away by the quality of the entries we've received so far. I've enjoyed watching every film, reading every script and listening to every track we've had.

Please keep the entries coming and if you've already submitted an example of your work, make sure to share the link with your friends so they can vote for it!

We're really pleased to announce that the competition is now live!

We're pretty sure we've tested everything really thoroughly and we're able to upload music, video and scripts without any problems, but if you do encounter any trouble don't hesitate to drop us a line by email.

Remember, even if you don't have any experience of film-making and simply want to share your thoughts about one of the issues we definitely want to hear from you.
